The Strange Tale of the Attacks Against GRC.COM.
“Nothing more than the whim of a 13-year old hacker is required to knock any user, site, or server right off the Internet.”

Fascinating stuff about denial of service attacks and zombie computers. I’m particularly interested because my own Linux server fell prey to the Adore worm a few months ago. After that I felt so compromised and violated that I seriously contemplated for about 3 days or so giving up the internet completely.

The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T

The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T. I haven’t heard anything lately about the proposed Broadway musical version of this cult Dr. Seuss film, but in the meantime I’m enjoying reading about one fan’s research into the history of the movie.

Note to self:

Here’s some discussion on creating an Avantgo channel to post to a greymatter blog. I bet I could rig up something to let me post to my own weblog through my Palm. One of these days I’m also going to have to figure out how to post via email.

Ladies and gentlemen, whether you like it or not… The soundtrack to Hedwig and the Angry Inch is due in stores July 10th (no listing on Amazon yet). Three of the film tracks are available on the album’s record label site for download.

Ever since I read Salon’s article on the X-10 home automation protocol, Geek House, I’ve been filled with much techno-lust and have been doing a little research. I remember pouring over Radio Shack catalogs as a kid, wanting to buy those automated light dimmer switches and control panels — but now with the advent of the personal home computer and the Internet, there’s so much more you can do!

Hall directors typically have small apartments (and I’m moving into an even smaller one than last year), but I have some summer play money burning a hole in my pocket and I’d feel more productive if I spent it on unnecessary home automation equipment instead of beer and porn.
