Online personality disorder test
Online personality disorder test. Big surprise — I’m paranoid, schizoid, schizotypal, avoidant, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive.

My week as a Nielsen household is over and my tv diary is online. I watched a total of 17.5 hours of tv this past week, under the usual amount since I’m busy with play rehearsal.

I’m scared to call our Computer Services department these days — everytime I ask them to come out and check something, the situation gets worse. I went from having lost connectivity in one ethernet port in my office, to losing connectivity to my entire office (knocking out my server), then to losing connectivity in my apartment in the same building as well. Seemingly, everything is fixed now.
But I guess I can’t complain too much since I have free bandwith for my server.

Missouri bans same-sex marriages
Missouri bans same-sex marriages. “I really wanted to spare the state the battle and discussion over this issue, so I signed it into law,” said Gov. Bob Holden. Grrrrrrrrr. And I was thinking about staying in Missouri another year?

This month’s issue of OUT included one of those annoying AOL promotional cdroms. But instead of following the traditional AOL primary colors scheme, it was black and leopard skin. Is that supposed to be some kind of gay-targeted marketing? “Let’s give them the leopard skin cds — they’ll think it’s fashionable (and/or) sexy.”

More thoughts on my current community theatre experience…
1. The presence of throngs of elementary and middle school children in the cast of GREASE lends a certain surreal edge to the show: the middle school girls, embarrassed by puberty, try to melt into the dark shadows of the stage while they mope through their choreography, while the tiny, waifish 6 and 7-year-olds strike sexualized poses as their stage mommies shout encouragement from the audience. It reminds me of those sick Junior Beauty Pageants where the girls are dressed up like 40-year-old hookers…
2. This cast is the most homophobic group of people I’ve been around in a long time (yes — a theatre group!). All the middle school and high school boys mince and lisp through gay joke after joke. Methinks some of them do it a little too well and aren’t particulary convincing when they play it “straight.” Time will tell. And sadly, I keep my mouth shut — I could be an out and positive gay presence to these kids who could be struggling with issues of sexual orientation, but thanks to comments from some of the “adults” in charge of the production, I stay silent. The last place I thought I’d go back in the closet would be on stage…

A.I.
A.I.. There’s not much to say about the film that hasn’t been said by all the critics. It reminded me a lot of all the worst aspects of the film version of The Wiz. And, yes, I felt emotionly cheated at the end when I teared up a little, but I think that my reaction came more from my own family experience of being the oddball, dealing with homosexuality, and trying to please my parents rather than anything Speilberg was doing.
I might have enjoyed the film more if it hadn’t been for the incredibly rude high school students sitting behind us who ridiculed the film the whole way through. Yes, the teddy bear and the robots were silly looking. No, I didn’t need it pointed out over and over with snide laughter and tasteless comments.

Song(s) of the moment.
Robbie Williams’s “Eternity” and “Road to Mandalay” (availble online here). The 15-minute short film, Rob by Nature, that they are featured in is unfortunately nothing but an overlong, self-indulgent music video.
