I am fascinated by the idea of checking on my TiVo through a web interface, and have spent the greater part of today working on implementing it. Wanting this feature has finally made me brave enough to open my TiVo (thus voiding the warranty) and poke around inside. Keep your fingers crossed.

Update: 2 days later, I’ve managed to get a simple Bash shell up and running on my TiVo (it’s fascinating to poke around the directories), but I still can’t get PPP working so I can set up the web server. After pouring through all the websites I could find about setting up serial connections, I’ve discovered that getting your TiVo to work with Win2000 (or any Windows box at all) is difficult and not really worth the hastle. So, I’ve moved my linux server from my office to my living room so I can run the serial cable to it.

Why are the sleeves of bathrobes so short? If I wanted three-quarters length sleeves, I’d walk around in a baseball jersey. Jeeves doesn’t know why.

My TiVo show listings have been messed up for a while, not accurately reflecting my local cable lineup. I finally decided to do something about it and emailed TiVo Customer Service. They responded almost immediately that I just need to send them a list of what my TiVo currently lists each channel as and what the channel actually is. Thanks to newly expanded digital cable (channels 2 - 939), I’ve got my work cut out for me.

Even though I don’t subscribe to any of the premium channels, I feel the responsibility to accurately and exhaustively report my cable lineup in the unlikely case that someone else in this backwater little town actually buys a TiVo. But I’m still incredibly embarrassed to be typing in silly porn channel after porn channel (what is Eurotica? Does it just show films of women with hairy legs and armpits?).

Word Games

Word Games. Did you know that in Microsoft Word spelling errors are underlined in red and grammer errors are underlined in green? Someone just pointed this out to me in my office (because I can’t see it myself). Whose brilliant idea was that? Does Microsoft not have a single color blind employee?
