Anthrax detected in Kansas City postal facility. A few days ago we laughed when one of my hall desk workers spotted a light, squishy, padded envelope with a return address in CT which had been postmarked in NJ and had no postal cancellation stamp. We carefully placed it aside and called the campus mail room to send someone and inspect it. Then my assistant Patrick came up with the brilliant idea of actually calling the person the package was addressed to and see if she was expecting it. Of course she was.

But now that anthrax has been detected 2 hours from here in KC, I’m not laughing anymore.

Happy Halloween.

Don’t forget to watch the thrilling musical Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street tonight (and check out the awesome PBS website).

Pic of the moment.

One fun thing about being a hall director is asking my staff to do silly things. Like wearing two different shoes to last night’s staff meeting. And then they actually do it.

My TiVo is STILL not working. Checking /var/log/messages reveals that the TiVo, upon startup, immediately thinks it is running at 100°C and shuts down automatically. A post to the AVS Tivo Forum has not yet yielded any solutions…

Smallville is filling Buffy’s big shoes.” Smallville is SO not in the same class as Buffy.

Barbra, can you hear me?

To a coworker: “I was trying to listen to Yentl, but residents and phone calls kept interupting me. It’s like God didn’t want me to listen to Barbra this afternoon”

…a reminder that even after a year and a half of unwanted celibacy, I am indeed still gay.

I went away overnight, pausing to manually restart my TiVo before I left so that the upgrade to version 2.5 of the software would go through. Now, I return to find my TiVo is locked up and won’t boot. Turning it off and back on (and leaving it off for 30 minutes and then plugging it back in) doesn’t seem to do any good. Boo-hoo :(

Grumble.

I’ve been a little too busy to read a lot of other weblogs lately — not that I can easily track anymore which ones have been recently updated since the changeover at weblogs.com. The SubHonker Filter, which I used to track my favorite blogs with, is now the “BlogTracker” — but it’s hampered by the fact that most weblogs aren’t yet equiped to send weblogs.com the RPC ping necessary to inform them of their updated status.

I’m now using a fun little PHP script from yaysoft.com which lets weblogs.com know when I’ve updated my weblog. But, I can’t get the BlogTracker to recognize my weblog like it did before, so anyone who uses it to track hit-or-miss.org (along with other blogs) will have to go through and update their account to recognize my weblog again.

What do you know? Only

What do you know? Only 2 episodes have aired and there’s already a whole site of Slash Fiction for Smallville.
