Don’t you hate those faux vintage/thift-shop t-shirts that the Gap and A & F sell? You know, the ones with made-up high school sports teams and bowling leagues, etc (and which cost like $50)?

You know what I’d really like to see? Fake high school and community theatre production t-shirts. My friend Amy is from Hannibal, MO (birthplace of Mark Twain), and has this great green t-shirt (her favorite shirt, by the way) from a production of Tom Sawyer the Musical that her mom worked on more than twenty years ago. I’d love to have an exact duplicate of it.

Interestingly, my favorite T-shirt in the world came from Hannibal, Missouri. We were driving through one summer on our way home from summer camp and stopped there for lunch. I bought a black T-shirt with Mark Twain on it and the quote, “The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read them.” As that was about 10 years ago, I’ve since lost the shirt. I’d give anything to have another one though.

As for community theater shirts… I think a large enough group of people could probably put something together themselves. I mean, I probably have half a dozen lurking in my dresser that I hardly ever wear. What if we each scanned in the designs and put them up on CafePress? Instant cheesy theater T-shirt collection. I’ll start us off with “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “Oklahoma!”, “Once Upon a Mattress”, and “Fiddler on the Roof.” :)

Hey! I think this is a terrific idea! Let me know where to send my H.S. and Community Theatre t-shirt art…I’d love to participate. I can just see my faded “Annie” logo on a nice ringer tee.

I have one somewhere of my high school’s 1987 production of “The Nerd”. Mint green. Very cool – I did the illustration!

Maybe someone should set up a CafePress site…

Okay, the experiment has begun. You can visit my prototype store at http://www.cafepress.com/cp/store/store.aspx?storeid=webgoddess. There’s only one design at present. I’ve set it up to sell the shirts for cost, so there won’t be any profit. What do you think?

This guy I met at a party last weekend had a shirt that said “Madonna Soccer”… apparently Madonna was the school. He was trying to get a “Madonna Wrestling” shirt, but they were out.
