VoIP Network at Dartmouth

Maybe I should have taken up the offer of interviewing with Dartmouth during my job search.

Let’s get physical

I rather impulsively joined a gym this afternoon. I’d been wanting to start exercising again and when the guy at the gym around the corner offered a great deal, I figured that if I didn’t snatch it I’d never get around to signing up anywhere else.

I got my first workout (a humorous term for what is basically always just 30 minutes of cardio for me) in this evening, and I’m pretty happy with the availability of machines and the music selection. Mike asked me if was a gay gym, but it’s really just a mix of serious meathead lifters and pasty 30/40-somethings. So no distractions from my workout.

I miss J. C. Penny

I spent the majority of yesterday searching for an inexpensive yet stylish casual cotton black button-up shirt. I visited H & M (2 locations), Express (2 locations), the Gap (2 locations), Eddie Bauer, American Eagle Outfitters, Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters, Macy’s, Daffy, and Century 21. And I couldn’t really find exactly what I was looking for (in black). I guess every other color is the new black.

A trip to the library

I finally got around to checking out the New York Public Library website (shame on Matt the former librarian) and discovered that due to budget cuts the libraries really aren’t open all that much. My nearest branch, for example, isn’t open at all on Saturdays or Sundays and only for a few hours during the week (during which I’m at work). I’m closer to some of the Brooklyn libraries than the Manhattan ones, but they don’t fare much better.

Fortunately, the Strand Annex is only 2 blocks north (with great hours to boot), but I hate the idea of paying for any book.

New collaborative event calendar (from waxy.org). It’s kind of like Friendster with a purpose: helping you keep track of what’s going on around town, what your friends are doing, and matching up with other attendees — all with blog-like comments and XML feeds.

Once a few more New Yorkers join up and start populating the database, maybe I won’t spent every night at home.
