In the wrong place at the right time
The three years I lived in Kirksville, MO, I took the regional commuter flight to St. Louis and back several times.
Almost two years ago, I was en route to New York (to meet Mike and see Avenue Q Off-Broadway). The plane took off from Kirksville and then immediately landed because of engine problems, resulting in the cancellation of my trip.
Last night, that same commuter plane crashed, killing 13.
I feel the same way I did when I saw my undergrad dorm on fire on CNN.

Scientology on the street
Jeff and I were walking around Midtown yesterday and passed by the recently renovated Manhattan branch of the Church of Scientology, which was having some kind of open house. Later on 42nd Street, we saw rows of tables (hawking Dianetics books) where Scientology volunteers were using E-Meters to give free “stress tests.” I joked with Jeff that I should sit down for one and ask them how many murdered alien ghosts I had floating around in my body.
Speaking of Scientology, the cast recording of the delightful A Very Merry Unauthorized Children’s Scientology Pageant is now available.
