Corner of the Sky

Last night I went with Jeff (his take), Mike (his take), and Dan to see a concert production of PIPPIN (photos).

It was truly amazing. I love living in New York and being able to go see Broadway shows on a regular basis. But being able to go to special one-time concerts is even better. I may not have gotten to see the legendary FOLLIES In Concert or DREAMGIRLS in Concert, but this was pretty awesome.

I’ve always had a soft spot for PIPPIN because I played the young boy, Theo, in a community theatre production back when I was in 2nd grade or so. Somewhere in my mom’s boxes of children detritus is a show & tell report I made of the experience, with misheard lyrics and stick-figure drawings. My mom sat through all those rehearsals with me and fondly remembers the show too, so I was so excited to share the news of seeing the concert last night with her.

Afterwards, we went to the restaurant where the after party was (photos) and sat at the bar and watched all the luminaries go up to the VIP room. After Jeff and I left, Mike finagled his way upstairs. Good thing too — I think if he had meet John Tartaglia, Jeff’s head would have exploded.

Thanksgiving Wrap-Up

I’m getting so behind on my blogging. Fortunately, Jeff is always there to document what we’re up to. Except, I’ve been lax pointing to his wrap-ups as well (here’s his account of what we did over Thanksgiving). I need to write some kind of script to automatically pull in his blog posts that reference me.

Presto-Change-O!

As Jeff and I got on a NJ Transit train today to ride back into the city after Thanksgiving with his family, I started going on past to the next car to find a row of seats facing the direction the train was moving in. Jeff called me back and blew my mind as he switched the direction of the seat. I’ve ridden NJ Transit several times and had never seen anybody do that before.

Fortunately, I had my new Treo 650 with me and shot this short video (Quicktime) of the transformation.

3 things I would have shot today with my camera phone if I had been quick enough

  • a Falun Gong billboard truck passing by
  • a guy scrambling down onto the subway tracks to grab the cellphone his girlfriend dropped
  • Elvis coming out of a Duane Reade

Holiday Music

Jeff and I will both be singing next weekend (Saturday, December 4 at 8pm) in the Gay Gotham Chorus Holiday Concert, at the Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew on West 86th Street and West End Avenue.

Also, we’ll be performing some holiday songs at the next WYSIWYG Talent Show at P.S. 122 on December 14.

Door to door NYC directions, including subway and bus routes. Only about a year and a half late for helping me learn my way around New York.

a night out at the piano bars with the boys

Last January Jeff, Mike, and I meet up with David of AbstractNixon.com for dinner and drinks in the Village. After living only 2 hours away from David in Missouri for 3 years, it took my moving to New York for us to finally meet.

David finally posted his noirish photos of that night.
