2004 in Review
2004 was a pretty great year — my first entire year living in New York City. Here’s some of the highlights:
- After dating for a few months, Jeff and I decided we were officially boyfriends.
- Shortly thereafter, I met Jeff’s parents for the first time, and have since attended a number of family events.
- My mom visited NYC and met Jeff. Even more improbably, Jeff went with me to my brother’s wedding. I still can’t really believe I’m finally out to my entire family.
- I joined the Gay Gotham Chorus (which Jeff was already a member of) and have enjoyed making music.
- Jeff and I went on vacation to Washington DC — the first adult vacation I’ve ever taken.
- I saw a ton of great theatre (according to my spreadsheet: 26 musicals, 7 plays, and 3 cabarets). Highlights included both the original and later Broadway staging of Caroline or Change, Dog Sees God, and a recent concert production of Pippin. And, I won the Tony pool!
- Every other Monday, I’ve gone to the Big Quiz Thing with Jeff, Mike, Dan, and a few others. We’ve never won 1st place (and have slipped from the top five after our music-expert Greg moved away); but in a crazy anonymous place like NYC, it’s nice to have a place where I’m a regular.
- Four months ago, I turned 30. And just like everyone told me, my thirties are rockin’.
If you check out Jeff’s year-end wrapup, you’ll notice our lists are pretty similar. So here’s to another happy year of Jeff and I together.

Top 100 Toys
Max points to a great (British-centric) list of Top 100 Toys from around the same time period he and I were both kids.
Several of my favorites make an appearance (Weebles, Merlin, Shrinky Dinks); but while Magic Rocks is on the list, my favorite — Magic Sand in the genie bottle — is not.
