The Downfall of American Idol?
What’s up with Simon this season? After watching him compliment a string of contestants, Jeff asked “Was he visited by the ghost of Jacob Marley?”
The show doesn’t really work with all three judges being nice.

MTA Fare Hike
I’ve been buying the 30-day unlimited MetroCard since I moved to NYC. It hasn’t saved me much money (and probably actually cost me more than single rides), but it’d nice to know I can jump on the subway anytime I want.
The cost of the monthly card has just gone up from $70 to $76. Thanks to Grant Barrett’s MetroCard Cost Analysis Report, I realize I should start buying the $20 single-ride card instead. I take 4 trips each Tuesday, but rarely ride more than 6 or 8 times throughout the rest of the week. Even if I bought a $7 Daily Unlimited Card on Tuesdays, it would only make those rides cost $1.75 each instead of $1.67 with the $20 card.

Podcasting
I’m not really interested in this whole podcasting movement. Rafe hits the nail on the head: “if I’m can’t skim it, I’m not interested.”
That said, I’m keen to watch the progress of PublicRadioFeeds.com. Now that I don’t drive, I miss listening to NPR on my car radio. I’d love to to have All Things Considered or Fresh Air automatically synced to my iPod (if NPR gets onboard).
In other podcasting news, everyone’s buzzing about ODEO, a new podcasting startup with Ev Williams as the pretty boy frontman.

On stage at Carnegie Hall
Jeff and I have spent 10 hours over the past 3 days rehearsing as ringers for a performance tonight of Beethoven’s Mass in at Carnegie Hall. As Jeff already blogged, there was a little bit of drama with the organizers not introducing us as members of the Gay Gotham Chorus because two of the participating choruses are from Baptist colleges in the deep South. But after rehearsing with them and an ill-behaved high school chorus from South Carolina, I’m glad we didn’t have to deal with any drama our outing might have caused. I just want this performance to be over with!
But stepping out onto the stage of Carnegie Hall today for the dress rehearsal made it all worth while. Wish us luck at our performance tonight!
